Kevin T. Gilbert
Kevin T. Gilbert is a 20-year veteran photojournalist based in the Washington, DC area, where he has covered superpower summits, professional sports, national political campaigns, and the news of Washington and the nation. He is currently the managing partner of Blue Pixel, one of the countryÕs leading digital imaging consulting teams, and President of Arkhaven Group, a digital production company shooting digital still imagery for corporations and television networks. Kevin recently finished his fifth term as President of the White House News Photographers' Association (WHNPA), and is the winner of over 35 photography awards from the 80 year old WHNPA. The National Press Photographers Association, The Society of Newspaper Design, and the Maryland-DC Press Association have also honored him for outstanding photojournalism and design. Kevin graduated from Syracuse University in 1981 with a photojournalism degree. Kevin spent 14 years at the Washington Times newspaper, including five years as Chief Photographer. In 1998, he left to become a freelance photographer, becoming the first contract still photographer for Discovery Communications, Inc, (owners and distributors of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, The Learning Channel, and the Travel Channel). Shooting for Discovery, he traveled the world shooting promotional and design photographs for all four networks, including four years of coverage of the Eco-Challenge Adventure Race. In 1999, Kevin formed his own production company, called the Arkhaven Group LLC. The Arkhaven Group, comprised of award winning photojournalists and editors, provides digital still photography for television and film productions, to corporate sponsors on proprietary events, and provides promotional/advertising photography and digital/internet consulting services to corporate America. Current clients are USA Networks, American Photo magazine, Discovery Channel, Columbia, Tri Star Pictures, and Mark Burnett Productions (Survivor, Eco Challenge, Combat Missions). In 2001, Kevin and a group of leading digital visionaries formed Blue Pixel Digital Experts. The groupÕs mission was to teach America digital photography. Within two months, Blue Pixel was hired by Microsoft to create the digital photography web portal for Windows XP, and hired by Nikon to create and implement the new Nikon School digital courses: Digital 101, and Advanced Digital Workflow. In 2002, Blue Pixel also added clients Apple Computer, Adobe Systems, the US Navy, The National Zoo, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Kevin is a frequent speaker and lecturer at digital photography conferences, trade show and universities. He currently is the coordinator of the Corcoran College of Art and DesignÕs digital photography department, which he created in 2001. He is married and has four children that put up with his hectic and varied travel schedule. He resides in Annapolis, Maryland. |
