“Eyes on the World”book now available
with credit card
The Alexia Foundation's "Eyes on the World" book displays the work of 18 past Alexia grant winners and presents work that has been exhibited at the United Nations building in New York, at the Pingyao, China, International Photography Festival, and at the UN Information Centre in Tokyo.

Soccer by the Israeli Security Wall
Jeffrey Fehder is a Syracuse University photojournalism graduate student. Jeff is currently an intern at the Syracuse Post Standard. He received a BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in 2002. Prior to returning to school at SU he worked for six months as a photographer's assistant to Arnold Newman. Jeff won a full scholarship to study photojournalism at the Syracuse University London Centre for the Fall, 2007, semester plus $1000 to produce his story.
Second place student winner Brian Lehmann is a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has interned at the Palm Beach Post and the Concord Monitor, is a staff photographer for the university paper, The Daily Nebraskan, and assists photographer Joel Sartore. He won a half-tuition scholarship plus $500 to produce his picture story.
Award of Excellence winners are Matthew Lutton, a junior at University of Washington; Deanna Alejandra Dent, a student at Arizona State University; and Veronica Wilson, a senior photojournalism major at Syracuse University.
Lutton is a Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies student. He interned at Black Star in Summer, 2005. Dent is majoring in fine arts and journalism and expects to graduate in May, 2008. She is spring intern at The Bulletin in Bend Oregon, and has interned at the East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Arizona, and the Arizona Republic. Wilson is an extern for the Syracuse Post Standard and has worked for the SU student paper, The Daily Orange.
Each Award of Excellence winner receives a $500 cash grant and a $1600 scholarship.
53 students from 41 universities and one high school applied to the competition this year.
Each student winner receives a scholarship that pays part of tuition, fees and living expenses to study photojournalism in London in the fall semester at the Syracuse University London Centre and a cash grant to help produce their proposed story.
Student Judging
The judging was done at Syracuse University on Feb. 24, 2007. Judges were Dudley Brooks, Baltimore Sun AME/Photo; John Long, 35-year photographer and editor at the Hartford Courant (retired December, 2006) and NPPA Ethics Chairman and adjunct professor of picture editing at Syracuse University; and Michele Stephenson who in December retired after 19 years as Time Magazine's director of photography.
