This project features the town of War, West Virginia. War is an historic mining town, Population 1000, nestled in the hills of Appalachia at the southern tip of the state. Since the mining industry pullout in the late 13GOs and early 1970s, the town and its people have struggled for economic survival. The people of War have turned to their neighbors, churches, young people, and the remnants of the coal industry to seek comfort in adversity and an uncertain future. Luke Price contemplates the winter weather from his porch before venturing to a nearby abandoned coalmine to pick coal for his heater.
