Chechen special forces train in Grozny after the war's end to celebrate victory. The one million-strong republic managed to completely expel Russian forces by mounting a surprise attack on Grozny in 1996. This forced the Russians to withdraw their troops, commit to a peace agreement and consider the republic's independence.
