An Afghan National Police officer who was injured by gunfire sings to birds at an outpost on the front lines in Pashmul in Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. This police officer is a Hazara, who are a minority ethnic group from central Afghanistan and are overwhelmingly Shia Muslims, unlike the vast majority of Afghans who are ethnic Pashtun and Sunni Muslim. Under the Taliban regime the Hazara's were massacared and a long running hatred exists between the two groups.
