Sexual Violence in Eastern Congo
A woman sings next to other, who gave birth as resulting of rape, into a room at Heal Africa Hospital in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo on November 22, 2008. The women in this hospital ward have fistula problems, an internal wound that results in leaking urine and feces. A fistula condition can be caused by punctures from sharp objects used by attackers, or by gang rapes, or by complications during childbirth. The women wait in this ward until the doctors from the hospital perform fistula repair surgeries.
