The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma named “The Long Night” as one of eight finalists for the 2015 Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma. The feature length documentary film by Tim Matsui and MediaStorm was made possible with the support of The Alexia Foundation 2012 Women’s Initiative Grant.

The award announcement states that the annual Dart Awards “recognize outstanding reporting in all media that portrays traumatic events with accuracy, insight and sensitivity, while illuminating the effects of violence and tragedy on victims’ lives.”
“The Long Night” tells the story of two minors forced and coerced in the American sex trade, and the people around them struggling to help them break free.
This year, the film’s excellence has won three major photojournalism industry awards, including the Picture of the Year International (POYi) Documentary Project of the Year, the National Press Photographers Association 2015 Best of Photojournalism Multimedia award and First Place Long Form Documentary Feature in the World Press Photo competition.
It has also been nominated for the 19th Annual Webby Awards under the People’s Voice category for Online Film & Video: Drama: Individual Short or Episode.
