Alexia Celebrates 10th Year at Pingyao International Photography Festival

For the 10th consecutive year, Alexia Foundation Executive Administrator James Dooley will be presenting the works of Alexia Grant Recipients at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the ancient walled city of Pingyao, China. He will be exhibiting the projects of The Alexia 2017 winners Sarah Blesener and Monica Jorge.

“Showing the Alexia student and professional winners each year gives the winners and the Alexia Foundation an opportunity to expose a large audience to the power and the importance of serious documentary photography,” explains Dooley. Continue reading

SALVADOR DE BAHIA, BRAZIL – JANUARY 22, 2011: Ana celebrating her sixth birthday. She was born and has grown up inside the abandonated chocolate factory, on January 22, 2011 in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. This impoverished community took up residence in an old abandoned chocolate factory on the coast in Salvador de Bahia. Despite the lack of socio-economic support from the government, they have managed to make a safe place for themselves to live, and form a community of their own, which is safer that the alternatives available to them.
