ondon is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Proud of its history, it is also a modern city and one of the major financial and political centers of the world. This makes it a perfect setting for study in many fields including art, history, government, communications, English literature, business and photojournalism. The top five student winners of the Alexia Competition receive scholarships which pay part of the tuition and expenses for a semester with Syracuse University in London.

All Alexia Competition applicants are encouraged to apply. Many past applicants joined the Alexia Scholars studying in London and have not only benefited greatly from the photography courses, but have also had one of the most defining and important (not to mention fun) experiences of their lives. SU London students since 1991 have gone on to win College Photographer of the Year, Hearst Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize in feature photography (won by Stephanie Welsh for her 1995 work after studying with Pulitzer winner John Kaplan in London in 1993.)

SU London photojournalism students take two photography courses. The courses emphasize the picture story and photographic content and allows for individually tailored discussions on personal shooting style and techniques. Students will also meet with London's working professionals -- some of the top photographers in all of Europe -- in their studios, at the SU Centre, at the offices of Reuter's and the Associated Press and at some of the newspapers based in London. Individual attention is one key to the London program's success. One professor works exclusively with a maximum of 15 students. In addition to the photography courses, the SU London program offers a variety of liberal arts and other courses in art, drama, English literature, British history, government and political science, advertising, management and public relations.
