"Eyes on the World" shows at Syracuse University in London
Twenty years after the bombing of Pan Am 103 which killed 35 Syracuse University students including Alexia Tsairis, the SU London campus hosted the Alexia Foundation photojournalism show “Eyes on the World.” From November 24 to December 5 the show hung in the Auditorium at the Faraday House which houses the SU London Program in Central London.
Alexia’s mother, Aphrodite Tsairis, spoke briefly at the opening about the Alexia Foundation that she and Alexia’s father, Dr. Peter Tsairis, created in her memory. Twenty years after the bombing the Foundation has awarded almost 100 scholarships for students around the world to study photojournalism at the SU London Program. It has also given for the last 11 years, an annual grant of $15,000 to a professional photojournalist.
The photographs in “Eyes on the World” are from the work done by the students and professionals who have been given grants by the Foundation over the past 18 years. To mark the opening of the show, photojournalist Chris Steele-Perkins spoke at the event and showed his work from several books he has produced. Steele-Perkins has been a member of the acclaimed picture agency Magnum Photos since 1979. He is a resident of London.
