Peggy Peattie opens "Eyes" at Western Kentucky University
The Alexia Foundation’s show “Eyes on the World” opened in the gallery in the Western Kentucky University journalism building on January 31. Peggy Peattie opened the show with an address to nearly 100 students, faculty, school administrators and community members.
Peattie, winner of the first Alexia Foundation professional grant in 1997, also spoke to James Kenney’s and Tim Brokema’s photojournalism classes at WKU on Jan. 30 and 31. She is a staff photographer at the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Aphrodite Tsairis introduced Peattie and gave a short discussion about the origin and philosophy of the Alexia Foundation. Aphrodite Tsairis and her husband Dr. Peter Tsairis are creators of the Alexia Foundation, named after their daughter who was a photojournalism student at Syracuse University. Alexia died in the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie. Scotland, in 1988.
The Alexia Foundation sponsored Peattie’s lecture and the photo exhibit at WKU. The “Eyes on the World” exhibit goes from WKU to hang next at the Portage District Library in Portage, Mich., where it will show from March 10 to April 15.
