Sebastian Liste’s Work from Cuba Featured in TIME LightBox

Sebastián Liste’s “Youth Culture in the New Cuba” photo essay is published in The New Yorker accompanying an article by Jon Lee Anderson about entrepreneurs in Cuba. Liste won the 2014 Alexia Foundation Professional Grant Recipient for his project, “The New Culture of Violence in Latin America” and continues to document contemporary issues in Latin America.

His photo essay “captures the city’s street life, youth culture, and burgeoning cultural spaces like La Fábrica de Arte Cubano, a venue in a converted peanut-oil factory that hosts dancers, artists, and musicians.” Through these initiatives, “new generations of Cubans ‘are getting the freedom and spaces to create,'” according to Liste.
