The Alexia Foundation is thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generosity of our partner, PhotoWings, we will be presenting works by the recipients of The Alexia 2017 and discussing our grants and their history at Photoville, New York’s premiere photo festival.
Photoville is a free outdoor festival that takes place in shipping containers along the Brooklyn Waterfront. The festival opens Sept. 13 and runs until Sept. 24th. More than 90,000 people are expected to attend. PhotoWings is a major partner of the festival.
Presentations will take place on Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. in the PhotoWings tent near the festival entrance. Winner of The Alexia 2017 professional grant, Sarah Blesener will show selections from her Alexia supported Toy Soldiers, which explores the growth of nationalism and patriotism in the U.S. and Russia. Alexia 2017 student grant recipient Monica Jorge will show selections from My Grandfather’s Keeper, on the struggles of senior spouses unprepared for care-giving in the face of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Additionally, at the Sept. 24th presentation, Lacy Austin, Director of the International Center of Photography Director of Community Programs and member of The Alexia Foundation Photojournalism Advisory Council will be speaking about the foundation and applying for our grants.
Thank you to PhotoWings for inviting us to be a part of this tremendous event. We look forward to seeing all of you there!
