Today, We Remember Alexia

Alexia Tsairis with her parents Peter and Aphrodite Tsairis, the founders of The Alexia Foundation. This photo was taken when Peter and Aphrodite went to London to visit Alexia during her semester abroad.

Today, we remember Alexia Tsairis, who was tragically murdered in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on Dec. 21, 1988 as she returned home from her study abroad semester in London along with 34 other Syracuse University students who were among the 270 people killed in the attack.

The Alexia Foundation was founded to celebrate and remember Alexia. In her memory, we have awarded over 156 professional and student grants totaling over $1 million dollars. If you would like to be a part of this remembrance and support photojournalism that gives voice to social injustice, respects history lest we forget it and helps us understand cultural difference as our strength, please give generously to The Alexia Foundation this holiday season.
